The oldest subsidiary in the Victor Technologies Family, is Victor itself. The year was 1913, San Fransisco, L.W. Stettner had suffered a serious injury, a welder by trade, Stettner lost an eye during a welding accident, and following his recovery, was determined to design safer welding equipment, and that’s how the Victor story began.
Victor Welding Equipment Company was the name assigned to the shop Stettner was working at, which soon became a manufacturers plant, after Stettner worked so diligently to experiment and create, from cutting torches to regulators, the industry was quick to adapt to Stettner’s designs. Victor Welding Equipment Company was quickly shortened to Victor Equipment Co. in the 20’s, a name known up to the mid 90’s as being the name for gas equipment.
The name Victor itself is derived from the maiden name of Stettner’s wife (Seger) which translates to Victor or “winner”.
